Now that we are making Christmas arrangements, it is important to review the things that can cause an accident at home with the Christmas decorations, the tree, the small parts, light cables and the celebration itself.

I am going to write some practical advice that can help you in case of an accident.

– When we are celebrating, it is very easy to get distracted by friends, visitors, family or the Internet, if we do the virtual celebration and neglect some important details; it is better to have things under supervision and control to prevent.

– Always keep in mind, if there are children at home or someone with a special need, take into account emergencies or events that we cannot control such as an earthquake, hurricane, fire or some natural disaster.

– Place the Christmas tree and house decorations in a way that does not block exits such as windows, doors and corridors in case of having to leave urgently and no one is trapped.

– If you use small ornaments, put them in places out of the reach of children; many accidents happen with children who swallow the ornaments and some even die from suffocation, even with small foods, such as snacks and sweets, for example.

– If you had the great idea of using a natural tree, think about reforesting, and even more, do not leave it near a fireplace or where there is fire.

– Before connecting the lights make sure that the cables are in good condition, try not to use connections that are exposed or near liquids or humidity and avoid being within the reach of children or pets to avoid being electrocuted.

– The Christmas lights have to be switched off when they are not attended, since they run the risk of overheating and causing fires that are very difficult to control.

– If you use candles, remove everything that can catch fire and do not leave them lit unattended.

– At the party, do not leave alcoholic beverages unattended and make sure that the bottles or glasses are empty, in the trash or in a place that children do not have access to, there are often cases of alcoholism in children under 10 years of age.

 – To avoid food poisoning, watch the temperature and pack your dinner and what is left over.

– If there are weapons at home or any object that could cause an accident, secure it in a place where no one has access, when it is a party very often it happens that children are browsing, playing unattended or people under the influence do not reason and they can cause some tragedy.

– At the end of your celebration, if you have consumed alcohol, please do not drive, as it could cause irreversible damage to both you and another family.

– Follow the recommendations of your Department of Health in the use of face masks and distancing from COVID.
