I emphasize to my students how important networking is to promote one’s agenda.
The world of work does function through the power of the personal contacts we do have. We find better opportunities by the support and recommendations of those we know. Jobs and employment do come as a result of the wise use of our networking capabilities. No doubt that “who you know matters a great deal.” However, “who knows you matters even more.”
The genuine interaction of human beings to enhance one’s development and progress is welcome in order to achieve personal and professional goals. In addition, the formation of new relations with the mind to benefit others is a desirable and noble objective.
It is always rewarding to me to see my former students contribute to society through their talents and skills. I do also marvel of the reoccurring interaction they have among their former peers to create and innovate their ingenuity to generate work and wealth.
Having said that, it is humbling for me to see networking at its best when well-intended and accomplished peers, friends and colleagues get together to promote honorable and selfless goals and projects. Networking for the right reasons gives me comfort that part of the solutions of humanity rely in the unity of the human spirit to reach out to ones in need.
